An exhibition about the experiences of women who are, or have been,
in contact with the criminal justice system (as offenders or
ex-offenders)
It will open to the public on 9th March 2011, just days ahead
of the fourth anniversary of the Corston Report, a review which
looked at the experiences of vulnerable women within the criminal
justice system, then recommended a radically different
approach.
Curators at the gallery, which is run by the mental health charity
Together, are inviting women currently in prison, and those with a
history of offending, to submit work and tell the story of what
life has been like from their point of view, four years on from the
review.
The exhibition was inspired by, and is named after, 'Girls Behind
Bars' a sculpture by Eve McDougall, an artist and ex-offender who
was sent to an adult prison at the age of 15 for breaking a window.
Eve is acting as a consultant to the gallery curators.
DEADLINE:
All works must be received by Friday 11th February 2011.
