What we do

Domestic Violence and Mental Health resources
A conference and several roundtable events were held between 2003 and 2006 to focus on some of the complexities relating to mental health and domestic violence and to find common goals and potential partnerships. This work informed the development of our mental health and domestic violence toolkit. Resources from these events and our toolkit are available on available in the resource section.

HEVAN (Health Ending Violence and Abuse Network)
AVA runs this network in partnership with Hull PCT. Overseen by a Steering Group the network aims to improve partnership working between voluntary and statutory health agencies and the VAWG sector. Members can access health related VAWG info via the website and access free events which are held nationally three times a year. For more information contact info@avaproject.org.uk

Annual training programme
We deliver a number of training sessions on a variety of topics to help improve responses to survivors of violence and abuse. This includes developing counselling skills, understanding post traumatic stress, depression and anxiety; these are open to all practitioners with an interest in the subject. We have also developed training for specialists working in the field of sexual health, mental health and substance misuse.

Stella Project
This project has been running since 2004 and offers a range of services to organisations, local authorities and individual practitioners.

I don't call it mental health. I call it 'symptoms of abuse', because to me that's what it is.Survivor of domestic violence
