Course description

This course looks at identifying domestic violence perpetrators, giving safe messages and making appropriate referrals upon identification. It will also explore theoretical perspectives around domestic violence, the links to mental health and the perpetrator's choice to use violence.

Learning objectives

  • To gain a basic understanding of domestic violence and the links to mental health
  • To understand why and how violence and abuse are used
  • To gain skills to identify perpetrators and give safe messages regarding the cause of their violence
  • To learn about perpetrator programmes from practitioners working in this field
  • To learn how to improve your agency's response to domestic violence.

Who should attend?

Developed specifically for practitioners working with in mental health settings who wish to develop their skills to address domestic violence perpetration by their clients.

Preventing and Tackling Domestic Sexual Abuse and Violence NOS:

BH202 Challenge public attitudes towards domestic and/or sexual abuse/violence
