Substance Use – Theory and Practice Level 2: for domestic violence workers
Course
description
This course aims to build on topics
introduced in the Substance Use - Theory and Practice Level 1
training by giving participants more in depth information and
skills to work with problematic substance users in a domestic
violence agency. The course will look at conducting drug/alcohol
detailed assessments and explore some of the risks and concerns to
incorporate into safety planning with survivors.
Learning
objectives
- To learn how to conduct assessments with drug/alcohol users
including drug history
- To learn how to incorporate issues of risk and harm
minimisation into safety planning with survivors
- To explore some of the issues around triggers, relapse and
cycle of change
- To learn more about the risks posed to children around parental
substance use
- To explore opportunities for joint work with drug/alcohol
agencies.
Who should
attend?
This course is suitable for any
staff from front line domestic violence services that wish to
improve their response to survivors who may have problematic
substance use.
NB. It is a requirement for this
course that participants have attended the Substance Use - Theory
and Practice Level 1 training or equivalent course from another
provider.
