Supporting Survivors to Recover from the Impacts of Domestic Violence – Depression and Anxiety
Course
description
This course introduces
cognitive-behavioural techniques for supporting women who feel
depressed or anxious after experiencing violence to regain their
well-being. The course distinguishes real fear when women are in
danger from anxieties that they wish to control and sadness about
their experiences from depressive thoughts and behaviours. It is
designed to help workers identify and discuss signs of depression
or anxiety, to provide information and to validate women's
reactions to their experience of abuse. Delegates will try
strategies including the use of diary sheets, planning and goal
setting. They will practice identifying and challenging negative or
anxiety-provoking thoughts.
